It floats like a creature from the deep sea. Lantern Drifter has a pale violet body of tangled tendrils, sparking with soft blue electricity. A glowing amber bulb rises from its back, and inside that light sits a pink brain on a dotted golden stalk. Trailing behind on a long yellow vine is a tiny leaf with a single flame at its heart.
Lantern Drifter is a Healer, and its healing is close to the best in the fleet. When it reaches a broken ship, the tendrils wrap around the hull and the blue sparks seal cracks one by one. The amber light warms frozen systems back to life.
The soul inside was a lighthouse keeper on a stormy ocean world. For thirty years she guided fishing boats home through the dark. When her lighthouse was finally shut down, she Upleveled and joined the Cosmic Collective. Now she guides ships home through a far bigger dark. She never fights. She does not need to. Every crew she saves remembers her light.
