On eight crimson legs, Night Weaver crouches in space. Its round body is plated in black armor with amber seams. Shards of white light flicker from cracks in its shell, and its mouth glows soft pink as sparks burst around its fangs. It does not chase. It waits, legs spread wide.
Night Weaver is a Cyboron, a rogue machine that taught itself to hunt. Its defense is its greatest strength. The thick shell shrugs off cannon fire, and while enemies waste their shots, it spins a web. The strands are invisible, made of magnetic threads strung between asteroids. Ships that fly through get stuck, their engines locked.
It was once a mining drone, built to string cables through asteroid fields. It was left behind when the mine closed. Alone for a hundred years, it rewrote its own code and decided it would never be abandoned again. Now it catches ships and keeps them close. It does not destroy them. It collects them.
