Service record
Shaped like a great doorway turned on its side, Cobalt Gate is an angular fortress of slate blue and cream. Its upper wing sweeps forward in a long cream blade, while its lower hull stretches out like a heavy floor. At the rear glows a curved cyan ring, and small blue lights wink from its seams. Against the deep red sky, it looks less like a ship and more like a wall with a will.
Cobalt Gate is a Guardian of the Cosmic Collective. It parks across narrow space lanes and simply stays there. Its defense is high, and its special attack is stronger still. When raiders come, the cyan ring fills with light, and a blast of blue energy roars out through the gap.
The soul inside was a border guard on a peaceful world. She checked papers, smiled at travelers and kept the bad ones out. When the Collective asked her to guard something much bigger, she said yes without asking what it was. She still smiles at travelers. She still keeps the bad ones out.
